STEM graduate joins scientific PR agency
Scientific PR agency, Stone Junction has recruited its first member of the Stone Junction Academy. Recent graduate, Ellie Clifford will complement the existing science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) expertise in the agency, enabling the company to further improve service provision to its rapidly emerging healthcare client base.
Clifford achieved outstanding A level grades at Blessed William Howard High School in Stafford, before achieving a first-class degree in Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield, specialising in Physiology and Pharmacology.
During her degree, she completed a year’s work experience as an analytical scientist in a research and development (R&D) laboratory at global healthcare leader, Merck Sharpe & Dohme (MSD). Clifford was responsible for performing laboratory experiments to test the stability of drug compounds in developmental phases.
After graduating in July 2017, Clifford returned to Stafford to apply her knowledge of biomedical science and her experience in a laboratory environment to scientific PR.
“I enjoyed my degree because I was constantly learning new things about science,” explained Clifford. “I wanted a career where I could continue to develop this knowledge while incorporating my creative and writing skills. With Stone Junction’s new academy programme, I believe I am in the ideal place to achieve this.”
Although the competition among graduates to secure jobs is tougher than ever, Clifford succeeded in the interview process to obtain a job offer, despite approximately 200 other applicants.
“Our team at Stone Junction has grown by 70 per cent in the last twelve months,” commented Richard Stone, managing director of Stone Junction. “We’ve welcomed new employees from backgrounds in STEM, PR and languages, which has also led to us expanding into additional office space.
“Ellie has provided the agency with further expertise that will be of particular benefit to our healthcare client base. This includes organisations such as global engineering company, Renishaw’s Medical and Dental Products Division, medical battery manufacturer, Accutronics and cleanroom and laboratory design specialist, Boulting Environmental Services.”
Outside of work, Clifford likes to keep fit by trampolining, mountain biking and running, but counteracts this with baking and her love of chocolate.

Meet the team
Stone Junction is managed by Richard Stone, whose previous experience includes PR campaigns for Arup, AIT Plc, CIENA, Parker Hannifin, Schneider Electric, SIG, SKF, Roche and WorldCom. Well over a decade in technical and technology PR has taught him that he is only just starting out. He is a very slightly geeky father of two who lives in Stafford with his long suffering wife, aforementioned children, dog and cat.
Junction has been going from strength to strength, building up its
client base and championing the achievements of technical and
engineering firms, some of which are in Staffordshire."
