Stafford-based technical PR agency Stone Junction has appointed recent journalism graduate Thomas Roden as an account executive in its commitment to support paid internships. Last year, Stone Junction adhered to the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA) campaign to end the common industry practice of unpaid internships..

Stone Junction has a history of taking on paid interns, many of which move on to become full-time employees of the company. The latest appointment brings another talent to the workforce, at a busy time of continued growth for the agency.

“Stone Junction has a long-term commitment to training and continuing professional development. This refers to each and every team member, including interns,” explained Richard Stone, managing director of Stone Junction. “We want to give talented young people a platform to grow and gain relevant experience. We also believe our employees should be rewarded according to their passion and hard work, not previous experience.”

Before joining Stone Junction, Roden worked as a freelance journalist for a number of publications, including one owned by the Guardian Media Group. In 2013, he was a voluntary PR Officer for Stoke-on-Trent’s Douglas Macmillan Hospice, where he worked closely with local and regional media.

Roden graduated from Staffordshire University in 2014 with a degree in Music Journalism and Broadcasting. It was here that he developed his talent and passion for writing - as well as skills in audio and video production.

“This internship has unlocked a world I never really knew existed – technical PR,” explained Thomas. “I’m eager to work with the Stone Junction team and further develop into the role. I’m hopeful that my skills will help grow the agency and benefit clients.”
